Richard Middleton, Director

BBSc, BArch (Hons), ANZIA

Richard has over twenty years experience in the practice of architecture. He has an honours degree in Architecture together with a degree in Building Science, and is an Associate of the New Zealand Institute of Architects.

With a wide range of experience in architecture, Richard exhibits a strong response to individual clients' expectations and requirements, with a creative use of space, material and form to produce innovative and stimulating architecture.

Richard believes the strength of good design stems from the expressive use of form, space and light, together with a thorough understanding of each client’s individual objectives. As a Director of Novak+Middleton, Richard maintains the practice's vision, as a leading architectural practice that can deliver excellence in both design and service.

Richard takes an active role in the architectural profession. He is an assessor on the NZ Registered Architects Board and has been a convenor of the NZ Institute of Architects awards programme. Richard has also tutored in the NZIA Graduate Development Programme.

As well as a lifelong passion for architecture and its contribution to the environment we live in, Richard also manages to find time to enjoy sailing, skiing and time with his family.
