Located on a spectacular site overlooking Oriental Bay and beyond to Wellington city and the harbour, this house sits in harmony and in contrast with its dramatic location.
The owner's brief requested a contemporary home that responded to the dramatic and variable environment, providing a sense of shelter yet a connection to the landscape. Quality of space and light were essential. The house was required to maximise the view, and provide a high degree of privacy.
The palette of materials is restrained. Zinc, aluminium, bluestone, concrete plaster and timber form the materials throughout the house. The house is modern and minimalist, designed to provide a comfortable and functional environment for relaxed family living.
